Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums are our favorite flower for fall. They’re in-season, which means they’ll continue to bloom throughout fall. Plus, they’re available in a wide selection of varieties — from spider and button chrysanthemums to blooms featuring variegated petals. They also bloom in just about every color of the rainbow, including all the favorites of the season like red, yellow, orange, and gold! An arrangement of potted mums will look stunning and cheerful as a primary part of your front porch display.

Croton Plants

Offset the brightness of your fall flowers by mixing a few hardy croton plants into your arrangements. These leafy green plants add depth with their leaves featuring mottled red and yellow veins. You can also add some potted kale to your design, as the dark green and purple leaves blend beautifully with other autumn accents.

Autumn Accents

In addition to flowers and greenery, add festive style to your front porch design by incorporating plenty of autumn accents. Include objects like seasonal planters and other fun elements such as cornstalks, scarecrows, owls, and hay bales to can add a ton of personality to your autumn display. You can also consider changing your autumn accents moving from a spooky October to a harvest November.

Cozy Cushions

If you have outdoor furniture, don’t move it to storage yet! Instead, replace your summery linen and canvas pillows and cushions with cozier versions created for fall. Look for flannel and wool fabrics in plaid or other fall colors. Stack up a couple of cozy blankets and get ready to spend your autumn days snuggled up outside.

Pumpkins Aplenty

No autumn display is quite complete without the addition of pumpkins and gourds. When it comes to these slick pops of color, you can’t go wrong and you can never have too many! We recommend gathering a variety of colors, textures, shapes, and sizes to create visually interesting groups along your pathway, steps, or on either side of your front door.

Although carving pumpkins is popular for creating Halloween jack-o-lanterns, your pumpkins will last throughout the season if you leave them intact. For a more playful look, you can paint your pumpkins, instead of hollowing them out. Create fun patterns or cute characters, using seasonal stencils. You can also spray your pumpkins in metallic gold or silver for a slightly more elegant take on the harvest look.
