Sonora Dodd had rallied local Christian organizations to honor fathers everywhere, an effort meant to honor her own father who had raised her and 5 siblings alone. Members of the Spokane YMCA attended that service wearing roses. Red roses signified living fathers, and white roses were in worn in memory of the deceased. So many years later, roses are most often connected with Mother’s Day. In reality, they are both the official flower of Father’s Day, as well as the birth flower of June and therefore were more traditionally associated with fathers.
