Winter Weddings: Picking the Best Flowers

thumbnail Every season has its own special flowers. At Walter Knoll Florist, we can help you choose gorgeous flowers for your winter wedding. From bouquets and boutonnieres to flowers for the ceremony and the reception, there are many fabulous choices that will add grace and elegance to your wedding while highlighting your wintery theme.

Perfect White Wedding Flowers

What better way to create a winter theme than with pure white flowers? We have many options for you to choose from. For instance, calla lilies make great bridal and bridesmaid bouquets. Use them alone to take full advantage of their simple elegance, or mix them with other flowers to create custom bouquets that are truly spectacular! Gardenias and stephanotis are two more excellent choices. These flowers can be used alone to make compact bouquets of beautiful white blooms, or you can add them to a bouquet as an accent.

There is nothing like the soft, warm beauty of pastel flowers at a candlelit ceremony or reception. Choose from a variety of shades, including peach, apricot, pale pink, champagne, ivory and dusky lavender. Roses, lilies and mums are excellent choices as a foundation flowers for your centerpieces because they come in all of these shades and more. For altar arrangements, be sure to add snapdragons or gladioli. Because these flowers add height to the arrangement, they are excellent for framing the bride and groom at the altar.

Icy Blues and Purples

Winter is the best time of year to use cool colors in your floral arrangements. One of the best choices is delphinium. These tall flower spikes come in a variety of shades, from white and pale sky blue to a blazing electric blue. Also known as larkspur, these flowers work very well in altar arrangements and sprays as well as centerpieces for your reception. For rich purples, choose alstroemeria. These flowers make lovely corsages, hairpieces and they can even be used to decorate your wedding cake.

Orchids are another excellent choice. Use them singly in corsages or add entire stems of orchids to your centerpieces. Available in white, purple or a mixture of these two colors, orchids will add an exotic beauty to your wedding decorations.
